Effective Literacy Websites #7
Scribd (www.scribd.com) is a digital library. It has millions
users which often referred as, "the Netflix for book." Scribd (www.scribd.com) was also known as the "YouTube for
documents," allowing anyone to self-publish on the site using its document
reader.
In 2013, Scribd (www.scribd.com) offers subscription service for eBooks.
Then, in 2014, Scribd added audiobooks and comic books in 2015. Scribd's (www.scribd.com) unlimited service launched on 2018.
These includes access to an unlimited number of books, audiobooks, news,
magazines, documents, and sheet music for a $8.99 (monthly). Currently, the
website offers a joint subscription to Scribd and New York Times for $12.99
(monthly).
Similarly, it has more media options for
less money. This service is better for traditional readers who wants to pay
less for eBooks for month to month. The $8.99 membership fee gets you 3-three
eBoooks, 1-one audiobook and unlimited access to sheet music and documents,
which is better than other digital library services. It has an audiobook
library approximately around 70,000 titles.
Moreover, it
has a modern and good-looking website. Scribd (www.scribd.com) have recommendations and suggestions as
well as user reviews publisher summaries to help you find books you'll like
quickly. So it lets you put books on your "WishList" so you can come
back and listen later on.
Scribd (www.scribd.com) uses Digital Rights Management to
protect its files from being copied and reproduced, so subscribers can only use
three-3 different computers or browsers to listen to audiobooks online in
a 24 hour period. Teachers and students can also download audiobooks in the
application on their (four) 4 different devices such as tablets or androids.
The website does not offer support over the phone. However, Scribd (www.scribd.com) has very responsive email system. The
company's FAQ's page is thoughtful and has useful search engine. Overall,
Scribd (www.scribd.com) allows users to discover the best reads
on various topics of interest at anywhere and anytime and offers literacy
resources abundantly.
