Newsletter Weekly Project: Effective Literacy Website #5
Keys
to Literacy (https://keystoliteracy.com/)
provides teachers with free resources for implementing literacy strategies in
their classroom. ON a larger scale, they also provide district wide
professional development, but of course, that is something that must be
organized by administrators and the GDOE office. For us teachers, this is a
great website that offers resources at a cost or free resources. The only
requirement to gaining access to the free resources is that you become a
member, which is also free.
This
website is great for promoting literacy. The free resources page contains
videos, articles, templates, access to newsletter archives, and also a list of
other website and organizations that support literacy. The videos are very
informative and are categorized into three sections: comprehension, vocabulary,
and writing. They cover various topics such as components of reading and also
more specific videos that cover a type of graphic organizer and how to
implement it in your classroom.
The
templates and printable section includes downloadable PDFs that cover
comprehension, vocabulary, writing, literacy planning, and support materials.
What is great is that the templates can be used in content areas other than
English. A common misunderstanding is that only ELA teachers can teach,
promote, and implement literacy-based strategies, but this is not true. Every
content area teacher can find ways to implement literacy in their classroom.
This website is
worth a peek for all teachers. Free content is always the best, but for those
willing to invest their money in literacy, there are online professional
development courses offered in the website. For a small fee, teachers can also
find some great posters for their classrooms.
