IRA Newsletter Project: Effective Literacy Website # 5

KidLit.TV (https://kidlit.tv/) is a free online website with resources devoted to literacy.   There are resources for parents, educators, librarians, authors, illustrator and others who are interested in children’s literature.  KidLit. TV (KLTV) is an award winning website.  They are the recipients of the Parent’s Choice Golden Award, the Norton Juster Award for Devotion to Literacy and named one of the Great American Library Association’s great websites for kids.  The website is available in over 600,000 schools worldwide via the website and video distribution.  KLTV’s goal is to continue creating fun new ways to reinforce an appreciation of reading that children will carry with them throughout their lives.

Julie Gribble, the founder of KLTV is also the founder of the up-coming TeenLit.TV.  She is also an award winning writer, screen writer, film maker and producer.  Their websites navigation bar has numerous tabs to take you into the various areas of the website to places such as KLTV shows.  This tab offers a variety of read aloud, read by the authors of the books. Also, StoryMakers, hosted by Rocco Stains a librarian on the website, who interviews a variety of guests discovering booklists and book reviews.   He also brings to life books with his guests in the kitchen or by interviewing authors promoting their new books.  KLTV also has a podcast where there are hundreds of stories to choose from.  What I found interesting about this site was their Crafts and Activities page, encouraging young aspiring authors and illustrators to create their own journals and books. I also liked, the Book Trailer tab, where you watch a one minute preview of a book, information about the author, an overview of the book, and where you can purchase the book online.  There is a wealth of resources  and information on this website from booklists, book reviews for all readers of all ages, interviews with authors and illustrators, tutorials on how to create a book trailers and animation sequences, news updates and articles, and supporting tips for aspiring authors and illustrators.

Overall, KidLit.TV is a great online resource that helps promote reading and literacy. With the wealth of online digital audio books and read aloud, users are able to follow along as the stories are being read to them.   This website provides many great resources, it might be somewhat overwhelming at first, due to the sieving through all the tabs and subheadings. However, I would use this resource and recommend this site to other teachers, librarians and parents.
