Newsletter Project: Effective Literacy Website # 2
Storynory (http://www.storynory.com) is a free online
website that brings children an audio story every week. They are a podcast and
a website with audio streaming.
Storynory has given free audio stories to people all over the world
since 2005. Their site mentioned that some
months they serve around a million downloads of their mp3 files, and all there
content is free.
Storynory
has a library of over 600 audio stories ranging from Original stories
(exclusive to Storynory), Fairy Tales, Classic Authors, Myths & World,
Educational and Poems & Music. This amazing digital audio book website
includes many great and amazing features and resources. Some features include
the option of downloading the audio book to your computer, phone, or tablet,
with the ability to translate text into different languages. The download or when watching online has a
written text features available for students to follow along with the story as
it is being read to them. All the stories on the website are read by the great
storyteller Natasha Gostwick who gives a little introduction to the stories
before she reads.
Overall,
Storynory is a great online resource that helps promote reading and literacy.
With the over whelming variety of online digital audio books, users are able to
follow along as the stories are being read to them. This website is also a great tool for
English language learners or struggling readers, as one of the many great
features includes the option to translate text into different languages. This
website provides many great stories for students and users who are audio and visual
learners. I would use this resource and recommend this site to other teachers
and parents.
